Eric F. Bernstein, MD, is a distinguished practitioner, researcher and innovator in the fields of dermatology and laser surgery. He received his BS from Duke University and MD from the Yale University School of Medicine. Following fellowships with the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health and Hahnemann University, he joined Jefferson Medical College, where he directed a photobiology laboratory and served as the first director of the Laser Surgery Center.
His research on a molecular model of skin photoaging led to the development of his own firm, DakDak LLC, which performs in vitro phototoxicology testing for large pharmaceutical companies and pursues discovery of novel anti-aging and pharmaceutical compounds. Dr. Bernstein holds several U.S. and international patents, has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles, and has given more than 150 presentations at scientific meetings.
A board member of Candela Corporation, a leading manufacturer of medical laser systems, he also consults with numerous cosmetic and biotechnology firms. Dr. Bernstein recently earned an MSE in Management of Technology from the School of Engineering and Applied Science co-sponsored by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and currently teaches a course entitled 'Biotechnology and Medicine' in that program.
Maureen Ferreira is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree in Science from San Diego State University. Maureen has been a specialist in dermatologic laser surgery for over a decade. In January 1995 Coherent Medical Incorporated hired Maureen as their Regional Education Manager for the Eastern Region, training physicians in the use of novel laser therapies (including Dr. Bernstein). She has performed laser hair removal in Dr. Bernstein's laser practice as a Laser Specialist since February of 2000.
Maureen has traveled the United States and extensively abroad teaching laser physics, laser safety and treatment techniques in hospitals, physician offices and throughout the industry.
She currently consults with hospitals and laser companies as an expert in laser safety, and laser treatment techniques. Maureen lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and 2 young children, and travels to the Pennsylvania to Dr. Bernstein's laser center to participate with Dr. Bernstein in laser research and performs laser hair reduction. Dr. Bernstein and Ms. Ferreira have published together on novel laser treatments in the peer-reviewed dermatologic literature.
Kim Cascarino
Registered Nurse, Medical Esthetician
Kim Cascarino, R.N. is an experienced esthetician who specializes in administering the most state-of-the-art treatments for all skin types. Kim graduated from Holy Family University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with her registered nurse degree. Following graduation, Kim worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford, NJ, providing care to neonates and premature infants with a myriad of complex problems for six years. She then turned to pursue her passion in medical skincare by attending PB School of Cosmetology.
Following her training at PB, she began working in the office of Dr. Eric F. Bernstein in Marlton, NJ, administering medical skincare and learning innovative treatment regimens with Dr. Bernstein and his colleagues.
Kim has also worked at Esthetica Salon and Spa in Northfield New Jersey for seven years, administering many novel treatments including a unique peel developed by Dr. Bernstein, which Kim introduced in southern New Jersey. Kim is one of the premier practitioners in the country to use the Vibraderm micro-dermabrasion unit, and has developed novel ways of enhancing penetration of various topical agents for the treatment of hyper-pigmentation, melasma and skin aging. We are proud to have Kim join our practice in Pennsylvania, traveling a great distance to serve our patients from her home in Egg Harbor, NJ.
Lisa Basilavecchio
Registered Nurse
Lisa Basilavecchiom R.N. is an accomplished aesthetic nurse specialist who focuses on skin laser surgery, to which she exclusively limits her practice. She graduated from Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana with an Associate of Arts degree in Nursing. Prior to her transition into the medical aesthetic field, Lisa's clinical experience ranged from inpatient medical-surgical and cardiac intensive care nursing.
Having been mentored by Eric F. Bernstein, M.D., a widely known expert in laser surgery, in the latest techniques for laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation, she thoroughly enjoys her role practicing as an aesthetic laser nurse specialist.
Lisa continues to remain at the forefront of advancements in cutaneous laser treatments by attending national conferences and participating in clinical trials of novel laser treatments. She recently completed the Nursing/Allied Health Course at the American Society for Laser Medicine Surgery conference, where Dr. Bernstein was also a lecturer. Her compassionate nature, extensive laser experience, and caring personality contribute to the overall success of patients' laser treatments and their experience at Main Line Center for Laser Surgery.
In addition, to her above experience, Lisa was among the first people in the country to use the Serenity-Pro system from Candela Corporation. She has expertise in using 4 different hair-removal lasers currently at Main Line Center for Laser Surgery, enabling treatment of all skin and hair types. In addition, Lisa has expertise at using a myriad of laser for rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin and for treating vascular lesions.
