Regardless of the cause…overly large, protruding lips can be corrected... achieving natural looking facial balance & harmony…and ending harmful teasing and ridicule.

Lip reduction is a very common procedure chosen by people with overly ethnic lips (certain races born with thick lips), people living with botched results from silicone implants, people born with congenital defects such as cleft lips, and lastly people suffering with accident/burn injuries that healed with lumps and bumps caused by excess tissues requiring correction.
BENEFITS OF LIP REDUCTION
• Lip reduction results are permanent & natural looking
• Improves daily habits like eating, talking, dental hygiene & more
• Reduces overly large, protruding lips to a more pleasing size
• Creates natural, pleasing facial balance & harmony
• Can be done in tandem with other facial procedures
• Is one of today’s more refined, commonly performed procedures
IS LIP REDUCTION RIGHT FOR YOU?
If you are concerned with any or all of the problems listed above, and you have a strong desire to create lips that will be in sync with the rest of your facial features, lip reduction may be a good choice for you. You should be in otherwise good health and must have mature, realistic expectations. Many patients choose to have their lip reduction done in combination with other harmonizing procedures such as a facelift or rhinoplasty to achieve the most pleasing outcome.
LIP REDUCTION SURGERY…HOW IT’S DONE
Local anesthesia is generally used to keep you totally comfortable and the procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours depending upon the extensiveness and whether or not it’s done in combination with other procedures. Dr. Bloom hides the incision inconspicuously and it is not visible when your swelling is totally resolved. The lips are reduced to the desired size by removing a small section of tissue from the inside of the lip. Sutures then close the incision. Swelling resolves over a few weeks and then you will see the real results.
AFTER SURGERY
You can expect the following when you wake up and you should follow the instructions given when you return home:
1. Some swelling, bruising, numbness and discomfort is normal and to be expected.
2. Cool compresses and oral pain medication will easily manage your discomfort.
3. Your lips will appear “overly large” for a span of time…this varies with each patient.
4. All swelling resolves on its own in a few weeks as healing progresses.
5. You will need to rest with your head slightly elevated for a few nights.
6. Plan on a liquid to soft diet for a few days.
7. All strenuous activity must be avoided until healing is complete.
8. Internal healing takes weeks…so be patient and when it is complete you will see the real you.
LIP REDUCTION
Frequently Asked Questions:
What Anesthesia is Used for Lip Reduction Surgery?
Local anesthesia is all that is needed to keep you comfortable during your surgery.
Will I Have Scarring After Lip Reduction?
Yes. All procedures involving incisions create scars, but Dr. Bloom uses advanced techniques that minimize scarring. Also, the incisions are well hidden inside of the mouth and over time they fade into thin threads.
How Much Downtime Should I Expect?
If you have a lip reduction done as procedure by itself, you can expect to be able to return to work within 2 to 3 days.
Why Is It Common for People to Have Other Procedures Done Also?
Often, people decide to have a facelift or rhinoplasty at the same time as lip reduction because they want optimum results. Lip reduction does not address lines, wrinkles, sagging brows, or a nose that’s not balanced with other facial features. If they want complete facial harmony…often they have Dr. Bloom customize a treatment plan to achieve this.
Will Insurance Pay For Lip Reduction?
Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures unless they are deemed medically necessary. You need to check with your provider for the correct information. We offer financing and have information about it in our business office.
FACIAL PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON
Choosing a surgeon is a serious task and should not be taken lightly. A good rapport, a clear understanding and solid trust is important before entrusting your care to any physician. In addition to medical school, internships and the other rigors of preparing to be a surgeon, Dr. Bloom was privileged to learn from the masters through a “fellowship program.” Fellowship training involves working with renowned surgeons who are true experts in their areas of specialization. Dr. Bloom is knowledgeable, skilled, qualified and considers it a privilege to help his patients by employing his special techniques and ability…to change lives positively!
