REVISION RHINOPLASTY

When performed by a qualified, highly skilled surgeon…who performs it regularly…rhinoplasty is one of the most satisfying surgeries done today.
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed to change the nose cosmetically by reshaping, changing the angle or span of the nose, removing a hump or dealing with age related changes such as a nose that has become “bulbous” at the tip. Regardless of your reason(s), Dr. Bloom is highly skilled, as a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and performs these delicate nose surgeries to achieve the most functional and natural looking results possible.

Revision rhinoplasty is performed to correct or improve breathing or for cosmetic reasons…to improve undesirable results from a previous nose surgery. Undesirable outcomes usually occur from the unskilled hands of a physician who performs these delicate, complex surgeries only occasionally.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY BENEFITS
• Revision rhinoplasty restores a pleasing nasal form
• It corrects or improves impaired breathing
• Revision rhinoplasty employs today’s most advanced techniques
• Works well for all ethnicities…of all ages & stages in life
• Dr. Bloom achieves the most natural looking results possible

IS REVISION RHINOPLASTY FOR YOU?
Dr. Bloom knows that noses are unique to each individual and that “one nose” does not fit all. So he is especially skilled in helping you understand the intricacies of nose surgeries and what is best for you.

A good candidate for revision rhinoplasty surgery is concerned about any or all of the things listed in the “benefits” paragraph above. Every candidate should have mature expectations (realistic) and ideally be 15 years of age and older to ensure that growth and development is completed.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY SURGERY…How It’s Done
Based upon your individual needs, Dr. Bloom will perform either and “external” or “endonasal” approach to the nose. The incisions for an external procedure are made on the inside of the nose and a small incision is placed under the nose between the nostrils. “External rhinoplasty” is usually reserved for more complex cases. “Endonasal” rhinoplasty involves incisions inside the nose only. After sedation, Dr. Bloom makes the appropriate incisions and works through them to remove excess tissue, reshape cartilage and bone and change the shape and size of the nose. The goal of revision rhinoplasty is to restore normal function and a pleasing cosmetic appearance.

AFTER SURGERY
When you wake up, you can expect some discomfort including swelling and bruising. You will need to do the following:

1. Stay in bed the first day after surgery
2. Keep your head elevated on 2-3 pillows
3. Your nose may be packed (Dr. Bloom will decide this)
4. Discomfort is easily managed with oral medication
5. Dr. Bloom’s patients typically return to work/school within 1 week after surgery
6. Strenuous activities are restricted (sports included) for about 3 weeks
7. You must avoid lifting, bending, stooping and straining – until completely healed

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Anesthesia is Used?
Dr. Bloom will discuss this with you during your consultation. Often local anesthesia and sedation is used, but sometimes general anesthesia is needed for revision rhinoplasty surgery.

Am I a Good Candidate?
If you have a strong desire and need to restore nasal form and function, and you are in otherwise good health, you could be an ideal candidate for Dr. Bloom’s revision rhinoplasty surgery.

How Long Does Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery Take?
Dr. Bloom’s skill and expertise enable him to minimize the surgery time frame, but times will vary based upon the complexity of your procedure. Simple procedures may take as little as 45 minutes…more complex surgeries often require 3 or 4 hours.

Does Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery Leave Scars?
YES. All incisions result in scarring. But, when the closed technique is used, all incisions are placed inside the nose and are inconspicuous. The open technique requires one tiny incision above the upper lip right under the nose. This scar is very tiny and fades over time.

Is Revision Nose Surgery Painful?
There is mild discomfort and the feeling of a “stuffy nose”, but this goes away quickly over a few days.

Will Insurance Pay for Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery?
Cosmetic surgeries are rarely covered by insurance, but financing is available for those. (Ask about it in our business office.) If your surgery is medically necessary, it is usually covered. You must check with your personal insurance provider to determine this.

FACIAL PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON
Choosing a surgeon is a serious task and should not be taken lightly. A good rapport, a clear understanding and solid trust is important before entrusting your care to any physician. In addition to medical school, internships and the other rigors of preparing to be a surgeon, Dr. Bloom was privileged to learn from the masters through a “fellowship program.” Fellowship training involves working with renowned surgeons who are true experts in their areas of specialization. Dr. Bloom is knowledgeable, skilled, qualified and considers it a privilege to help his patients by employing his special techniques and ability…to change lives positively!
