Chemical peels have been around for a long time because they work. There are many types, with different names, that work at varying skin depths to get the job done. People, young and old, get chemical peels to eliminate fine lines, improve pigmentation, erase years of sun exposure, effects of smoking, pollution, poor nutrition and other lifestyle choices that accelerated skin aging and resulted in unhealthy looking lines, wrinkles and blotchy, leathery skin...even pre-cancerous growths and age spots.

It works well for men and women of all ages and stages in life who want to restore a more youthful, healthy glow to their skin. Dr. Bloom will determine if a chemical peel is a good choice for you and then will create an individualized treatment plan. You need to be in good general health and have realistic expectations.
CHEMICAL PEEL…HOW IT’S DONE.
Chemical peels come in three different strengths to accomplish individual results. The correct one is chosen for you based upon your personal needs and goals.
Superficial Peels are formulations of Alphahydroxy acids (AHA) and Betahydroxy acids (BHA) and are often referred to as “Light or Lunch-hour” peels. AHA and BHA achieve the mildest form of peel and are used to smooth rough, dry skin and improve the texture of sun-damaged skin and mild acne. The AHA solution can also be mixed with a bleaching agent to correct or improve pigmentation problems and may be used as a pre-treatment in preparation for a TCA peel or for laser resurfacing. Flaking, redness, dryness and mild irritation are common – but resolve in a few days.
Medium Peels treat skin with moderate sun damage, surface wrinkles and uneven skin tone/pigment problems. Varying strengths can be used to adjust the depth of the peel. A light sedation may be used to assure your comfort as most patients experience a warm or burning sensation. Two or more treatments are usually needed for optimum results. Flaking, redness, dryness and irritation are normal and to be expected during healing.
Deep Peels require use of phenol acid making this the strongest solution. It achieves the deepest peel and the most dramatic results by smoothing coarse wrinkles and is used to remove pre-cancerous growths and to correct blotchiness. Flaking, redness, dryness and irritation will occur along with minor crusting. A dressing is applied after your peel. Tingling and/or throbbing is common and to be expected but is easily managed with mild oral pain medication. Significant swelling is normal and should be expected, but it resolves over a few days time. Crusts or scabs will form and then gradually slough off over several days. Most patients are then able to resume normal activities – but sun exposure must be avoided.

Am I A Good Candidate for Chemical Peels?
If you have a strong desire to correct facial lines, wrinkles, acne scar, blotchiness, and restore a refreshed, glowing facial appearance, you are probably a good candidate. You should be in otherwise good health and have realistic expectations.
How Soon After Treatment Will I See Real Results?
In several days following the procedure, after all swelling is gone you will be able to see a more refreshed, glowing skin - absent the problems you had corrected.
Is Chemical Peeling Painful?
It involves different chemicals that work at varying depths in the skin to “resurface” it. This means removing outer layers of the skin. There is some discomfort involved in the stronger peels, but it is easily managed with oral pain medication and cool compresses.
Can A Chemical Peel Be Done in Combination With a Facelift?
Yes. Many times patients want to optimize their outcomes and do so by combining other age defying procedures with a chemical peel.
Do Chemical Peels Stop or Slow the Aging Process?
No, but they do restore a more youthful appearance. We cannot stop or slow aging, but with the many age defying options we have today, we can take years off the face and keep you looking years younger…always.
Will Insurance Pay For Chemical Peel Treatments?
Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures. But financing is available and we have information about it in our business office.
